Introduction to Shibari: a gentle introduction at the École des Cordes (Paris)

Are you curious about Shibari but hesitant to try it yet? Do you have questions, doubts, misconceptions, or simply want to understand before practicing?

Shibari initiation course at the École des Cordes , in Paris, is designed as a simple, clear and respectful entry point: 3 hours (one Sunday per month) to discover, discuss, learn the basics and leave with solid reference points.

An introductory Shibari course to discover without pressure

The goal of this Shibari initiation is to introduce you to the practice gently , without performance, without "level to have", without obligation to come as a couple.

It's a short, accessible format that allows you to grasp:

  • What Shibari really is (and what it is not),
  • The physical and psychological challenges,
  • The basics of security and consent,
  • The first technical movements with ropes.

Combating misconceptions about Shibari

Many people are interested in Shibari but remain blocked by preconceived notions: fear of doing it wrong, fear of hurting, fear of "too BDSM", fear of the gaze of others, or confusion between Shibari, bondage and sexuality.

During this Shibari initiation , we take the time to lay things out: we talk about what you imagine, what you have seen, what attracts you or worries you, and we clarify together what is fantasy, cliché or reality.

Program: 3 hours of discussion, discovery, and initial steps

1) Open discussion: your questions first

We begin with a simple and direct discussion. You ask your questions, and I answer them openly and clearly. This first part is essential: it allows you to feel comfortable even before touching a rope.

2) Presentation: history, security and consent

Next, I propose a structured presentation on:

  • The history and origins of Shibari,
  • Safety (basic principles, risk areas, best practices),
  • Consent and communication (before, during, after)
  • Possible intentions: aesthetics, sensation, connection, play, exploration.

3) Practical application: basic technical skills

Finally, let's talk about the strings. You will learn:

  • Simple and useful basic knots ,
  • An harness for beginners,
  • A safe starting point

The idea is not to “learn everything” in 3 hours, but to leave with concrete foundations, a clear understanding, and above all the desire (and the reference points) to continue.

A course open to single people

introductory Shibari course is open to individuals . You can come without a partner: the goal is also to discover the world of Shibari, understand the practice, and gain confidence before going further.

Why join this Shibari initiation?

  • Discover gently in an educational and respectful environment.
  • Demystifying the practice and moving beyond clichés,
  • Understanding the issues (body, safety, consent),
  • Learn the basic techniques to practice properly.
  • Test before committing to a longer journey.

And after the initiation?

After this Shibari introduction , you will have a clearer vision of what attracts you: floor practice, aesthetics, sensations, technical progression, or deepening of the fundamentals.

If you wish to continue, the École des Cordes then offers courses adapted to your level, to build a solid, progressive and safe practice.
