The Shibari Lab: Deconstructing and Constructing a Pattern: A Unique Workshop at the École des Cordes, Paris
At the School of Ropes, we offer much more than traditional Shibari classes. With the Retro-Engineering Lab, immerse yourself in a unique learning experience that combines technical rigor, creativity, and a collaborative spirit. This workshop is designed for practitioners already initiated into the art who wish to deepen their understanding of the mechanics and aesthetics of Shibari.
What is Lab Shibari?
The Lab is a unique offered in Paris, within the École des Cordes.
The principle is simple:
- The students submit a challenge figure in advance.
- During the workshop, we break it down together, step by step.
- We analyze its lines of tension, its supports, its security and its artistic intentions.
- Finally, we reconstruct the figure to produce a clear, fluid and reproducible version. It is a space for collective exploration, where each participant benefits from the experience of Alex Dirty Von P, while actively contributing to research and experimentation.
Why participate in this workshop?
- Combining technique and creativity: the Lab allows you to understand the logic of complex figures while opening the door to personal variations.
- Develop your autonomy: by learning to analyze and reconstruct a figure, you gain independence in your practice.
- Learning through collective practice: group dynamics stimulate reflection, creativity and mutual support.
- Progressing towards fluidity: faithful to the school's approach, this workshop remains aligned with the rigor and precision characteristic of this lineage.
Who is the Shibari Lab for?
This workshop is intended for practitioners who have already acquired:
- Mastering a secure TK/Gote,
- The basics of fundamental links (single column tie, double column tie, counter-tension, friction),
- Regular practice on the ground or in semi-suspension.
It is recommended to come with a partner to fully enjoy the workshop.
The Lab is much more than a Shibari workshop: it is an immersion in research, analysis and creation.
By joining this unique format in Paris, you will develop not only your technique, but also your artistic vision and your ability to evolve your practice.
